A tribute to Admiral Lord Collingwood on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of his death at sea. Don't expect scientific essays, though – it’s a "spin-off" of my Joyful Molly blog on Wordpress.

All through 2010, you’ll find updates on events, quotes, historical fact, trivia, book reviews and more.

I hope you’ll find the new blog interesting and entertaining.

(Have you seen the Newcastle book of the month competition thing? Should I just assume you've seen everything? :) )

No, I haven't! Do you have a link? I'm actually grateful for every link; it's impossible to see everything, and I'm the type of person who misses half of the important bits, so every tip is very welcome. :)

(and http://www.newcastle.gov.uk/tbp.nsf/BookSearchCMS/94CBF6324D3E9A3F80256F82003A09B2 for the book itself)

I just stumbled across it by accident, and I have my copy now, but someone might want to win one :)

Thanks a lot, I just updated the blog. :-) I have the book as well, but it looks like this is an updated version. Do you maybe know what the features/differences of that edition are?

I haven't seen the original, so I don't know - mine is the new one, and just says 'revised 2009', not what the revisions are.

Haway the Geordie boys.

I'd love to know if Admiral Collingwood is related to Paul, the cricketer.

I read somewhere that Paul Collingwood is actually related to Collingwood, but not in a direct line, as Collingwood had no son. It's through G.L. Newham, who adopted his wife's name. But please hold me on that, it's only hear-say and I can't remember the source. :)

If it is true I shall wear a smile for a month. I got ridiculously excited the day he was out for 111, a score traditionally called 'Nelson'. :)
